So how was it for you? January may already feel a distant memory but did you succumb to the endless emails and adverts encouraging you to lose weight/get fit/stop drinking alcohol and discover a whole new you?

If you’re anything like the team at Close Finance, the barrage of media suggestions to make wholesale changes in 2025 were probably enough to put you off committing to any form of self-improvement!

But looking after staff wellbeing is a vital part of our ethos throughout the year – not just in the month following the festive excesses.

We take it so seriously in fact that we give every team member an annual Wellbeing Day – a day off work dedicated entirely to their own health and happiness. We believe by looking after our team we can be sure they’re in the best healthy place to deliver the best possible service to our customers. It reflects our commitment to creating a workplace culture where people feel supported, valued and empowered.

Head of Business Development, Stuart Butler spent his wellbeing day making memories in London with his family enjoying the build up to Christmas.

“We had a wonderful day taking in a West End show, riding the London Eye and seeing the Christmas lights”, he said, adding with a wry smile “it may not have been particularly relaxing but it was quality, family time which contributed enormously to our emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing.”

The Close Finance team used their 2024 Wellbeing Days in all sorts of different ways and it doesn’t have to cost them huge sums of money. Key Account Manager Ben Butlin chose to take his day off after a particularly productive few weeks at work, treating himself to a lie-in, hearty breakfast and a scenic walk along Jersey’s beautiful coastline.

“For me it was a chance to recalibrate and refresh after a very busy few weeks at work” he said. “I truly believe you need to look after yourself to offer the best version of you to your family, your work colleagues and clients.”

For Stuart it’s about never underestimating the importance of wellbeing to both individuals AND the workplace.

“When our team members have the chance to recharge, refocus and prioritise their wellbeing, they bring their very best to work and that directly benefits our clients”.
